College Alumni Ministry

“You have a home at St. Louis!”

jessie kingCollege Alumni Ministry is dedicated to supporting our parish’s college-aged young adults through the 4 components listed below. It has been a meaningful and vital part of the College Ministry at St. Louis.

4 Components of CAM

1.) Homecoming Weekend (End of May)

CAM kicks off the Summer Break by hosting a College Ministry tent outside of Mass. College students are encouraged to stop by to register for College Ministry and to pick up a summer calendar.
Different roles include: setting up and decorating the tent outside of Mass, signing up to be stationed at the tent after Masses to distribute calendars and promote registration, cleaning up the tent.

2.) Send Off Weekend (Beginning of August)

At the end of summer, there is a Send Off Blessing for college students at the 12:45pm Mass. After the Mass, CAM hosts a lunch for the students. CAM members and the college students get to know one another during the meal. Different roles include: Setting up tables and chairs in the Social Hall, decorating for the meal, signing in young adults and alumni as they arrive for lunch, coordinating the pot luck lunch, contributing items to the pot luck lunch, attending the lunch and sitting with the college-aged young adults.

3.) Prayer

Each member of the College Alumni Ministry will be assigned one student in the College Ministry to pray for throughout the school year. This is the most important part of the ministry- remembering the young adults in our prayers as they work to keep their faith strong, live a Christian lifestyle, do well in school, and build healthy relationships!

CAM hosts optional (but highly encouraged!) Holy Hours on the 3rd Sundays of every month. They are from 6-7pm in the St. Louis Chapel during regular Adoration hours. We would love parents of college students to attend as well! September 18, October 16, November 20, December 18, January 15, February 19, March 19, April 16, May 21.

Each week, CAM will dedicate our prayers to a particular college student. CAM members will get a text at the beginning of the week stating the name of the student and any intentions they might have.

4.) Cards & Care Packages

Katie will provide CAM members with a suggested “card and care package schedule” throughout the year. Members are encouraged to send something to their college student monthly through the CYM. This often means writing a a card or sending in $10-20 for Katie to put together a care package in your name and send to the students’ schools.

Care Package Schedule 2016-2017

We will have two Care Package Assembly dates, prior to the Holy Hours on October 16 & March 19 in the Youth Room from 5-6pm. It will be a fun time of socializing with other member, preparing the care packages, and enjoying a light dinner.

This group is managed by Katie Erskine, Associate Youth and Young Adult Minister.
