What is the Habitat Trip?!

The College Habitat for Humanity Trip has been taking place at St. Louis since 2010. St. Louis partners with Habitat as a response to a call to be in solidarity with our brothers and sisters and to work for an end to poverty. Habitat follows a “hand up” versus a “hand out” philosophy, working with the families who receive homes to build the houses.

A Typical Day: [This year, our St. Louis group will be staying at a Habitat-provided home with any current COVID guidelines in place.] The flow of the day is wake up around 7am, breakfast, packing lunches, departure around 8am, arrive on the sight at 8:30am and work on the homes until 3pm (with a break for lunch at 12pm). Then we return to the house to chill, rest, play games outside, etc. A group volunteers to make dinner. In the evening, college students lead a retreat component. We will have a retreat theme and planned talks for every day, which include testimonies from the college students about relevant topics. There have been known to be Dairy Queen runs and a beach afternoon as well.

You should join us for Habitat if: You would like to give generously of your time and energy to build a home for a family. You are flexible and hardworking. You want to make new friends who will become like family. You are willing to come with an open and honest heart to share about your faith journey.
