As children reach the age of reason, generally around age seven, the Church extends to them an invitation to celebrate the Sacrament of Confession, followed by First Holy Communion. In order to begin the sacramental preparation process, a child must:

  • be baptized (baptismal certificate required)
  • be at least in 2nd grade
  • currently be enrolled in faith formation or Catholic school during the current academic year and was enrolled in faith formation or Catholic school the previous year
  • be registered in the St. Louis Parish sacramental preparation program

The preparation process for these two important sacraments will begin with parent formation sessions in October. These mandatory monthly sessions are held concurrently with the faith formation classes on Saturdays. In addition to the parent formation sessions, each child will receive an additional sacramental preparation textbook and parent guide to complete at home. The parent will be required to submit monthly reflections on the chapters to the Office of Faith Formation.

This preparation time is a very exciting and meaningful time in faith formation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Faith Formation Office at (410) 531-6688.
