Art is an important part of our curriculum and provides our students with a creative way to incorporate critical thinking skills and an appreciation for hard work and originality. Our Art Teacher, Ms. Dani d’ Epagnier does an amazing job of inspiring and guiding the students as they learn the techniques of various art forms and acquire an appreciation for the artistic works of important artists in history. It is no wonder she was chosen as our SLS Teacher of the Year!
Our 2019 Student Art Showcase displayed the amazing work of our students for all to see! From collages created by our PK students to impressionist paintings by our 2nd graders, to cool 4th-grade agamographs and 7th-grade pop-art food sculptures, there were almost 600 pieces of artwork from every student in the school on display. Thank you to our enthusiastic Art Club students who helped with face-painting, ice-cream scooping, and our collaborative art mural – making the night fun for all!
One of the highlights of the show was the unveiling of the incredible 8th-grade self-portraits, accompanied by personal poems written by the students reflecting on their childhood and inspired by the poem “Where I’m from…” by George Ella Lyon. The poems were heartfelt and sweet and left many of us wistfully thinking that childhood goes by way too fast.
A huge thank you to Ms. d’Epagnier for sharing your time and talents with our lucky students. Take a look at some highlights from the night and the gallery of artwork from every student in the school.
