Bake Chicken for Our Daily Bread (soup kitchen) || Students and/or Parents, Wider Community

Saint Louis Parish supports Our Daily Bread on the SECOND TUESDAY of every month by providing a chicken dinner to the over 700 hungry men, women and children who depend on Our Daily Bread for their daily meal. For many, it is their only meal of the day.    The chicken collection will take place NEXT SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8. Volunteers will collect cooked, bagged chicken at the maintenance barn on Sunday 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. Due to the new time and location constraints, WE CAN ONLY ACCEPT CHICKEN ON THIS DATE AND TIME. Please read the new procedures listed below and prayerfully consider joining us in this important social justice ministry.

Chicken Baker Instructions

  • Purchase chicken pieces (thighs and legs are great and are inexpensive to buy at the grocery store) and prepare them using a simple recipe: put them in a baking pan, brush with olive oil and bake them for about 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • If you purchase a cooked rotisserie chicken at the grocery store, please refrigerate it and cut it into pieces BEFORE you bag it. Do not donate a whole chicken.
  • Please remember to refrigerate the chicken before you drop it off. The chicken must be cold when it is placed in the cooler.
  • Put the cold, cooked chicken in one gallon plastic bags and drop it off at the maintenance barn on Sunday, October 8.

Chicken Collection People Needed

We also need COLLECTION VOLUNTEERS. Many parish ministries have stepped up to volunteer one or more months at the maintenance barn collection station. We are in need of individual parish volunteers who can be available for one 90 minute shift – Sunday 7:30 am to 9:00 am, 9:00 am to 10:30 am, 10:30 am to 12:00 pm and 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. Training will be provided. Please email Chicken Baker Volunteers for more information on how you can help.

Nursing Home || Saturdays || 10:15-11:30am || NOT AN OFFICIAL CYM EVENT || Students AND Parents, Wider Community

Though this is not an official CYM event, we would like to extend the opportunity to participate in ministry to those in a nursing home with one of our catechists, Joe vander Gracht and student, Grace. They visit every Saturday, except the last of the month. Please contact Joe to coordinate and confirm he is visiting the week you would like to attend. **Please note: a parent must accompany the student, for CYM is not providing chaperones and is not responsible for the student’s safety.** Joe’s Email: jvander@comcast.net Pleasant View Nursing Home: 4101 Baltimore National Pike, Mt Airy, MD 21771
