The Sacrament of Matrimony
The Sacrament of Matrimony signifies the union of Christ and the Church. It gives spouses the grace to love each other with the love with which Christ has loved His Church. The grace of the Sacrament perfects the human love of the spouses, strengthens their indissoluble unity, and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life. [Catechism of the Catholic Church 1994 Reference: 1661]
To celebrate the Sacrament of Matrimony in St. Louis Parish one of the partners must be a registered member for at least one year and the couple must contact one of the priests or deacons at least six months prior to the wedding date for proper assistance.
Formal preparation of engaged couples is essential for married life. In addition to working with the priest or deacon officiating at the wedding, couples participate in one of the three marriage preparation programs.
